Suncorp's Haven

This is a part of Symbio's Cannes Lions 2026 wrap-up. Last in this run, and the one that took the top prize of the whole festival.

TL;DR for strategists

  • Suncorp Insurance won the Titanium Grand Prix for Haven, a free digital resilience platform built by Leo Australia over several years.
  • There was no campaign film and no tagline about caring. Suncorp built a house that could withstand extreme conditions, then a street, then a platform open to every Australian homeowner, including competitors' customers.
  • Cannes 2026 rewarded the brand that changed how it operates, not the brand that said something meaningful about climate.
  • The transferable question for any brand: what have you actually changed, not said.

A house, a street, then a platform for everyone

By 2035, 10 per cent of Australian homes could be uninsurable due to climate conditions. Suncorp shifted from recovery to resilience. They first built a house capable of withstanding extreme conditions, then scaled what they learned to an entire street, and finally launched a free digital platform for every Australian homeowner.

Type in your address, hear from your home what it needs to be more resilient. Three hundred and twenty-three thousand visitors since launch, seventy-nine per cent of them planning home improvements as a result. Open to everyone, including people insured by competitors.

The wrong question versus the right question

Most brands under pressure to prove they care make a film about it. A voiceover, some music, a claim about values, and a media budget to make sure people see it. That's saying something meaningful, and it's the easiest brief in the world to write badly.

Suncorp didn't ask what they could say about climate. They asked what they could change about how an insurance company operates. No campaign, no tagline, a tool that works whether or not you're their customer.

Meaning isn't declared; it's built

The jury said it plainly: when resilience truly sits at the heart of your business, it changes how you operate. Titanium means the work shifted an industry, not that it moved an audience for thirty seconds. Suncorp didn't make an ad about climate. They changed how an insurance brand operates, and that's the new standard.

The Intelligence

The first rule of brand growth is being easy to find at the point of need. Same principle as a smoke alarm: it's only worth anything if it's already there before the moment it's needed, not after. Suncorp's done it as a resilience platform rather than an alarm, open to everyone, including competitors' customers, so the brand proves its point by changing how it operates, not by saying it.

What's your Haven?

Plenty of brands can produce a film about caring. Far fewer are willing to change how the business runs and let that be the whole campaign. Suncorp built a platform their competitors' customers can use for free, which only makes sense if resilience is genuinely the point rather than the pitch.

Write us "Haven", and we'll find a time to talk through what yours might be.
